What Is Eucharistic Adoration?
Eucharistic Adoration is the act of worshiping the Real Presence of Jesus in the consecrated Eucharist.
The devotion begins with exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. The host is put in a monstrance and placed on the tabernacle in the chapel.
During the hours of Adoration, there is silence in the chapel for people to come by for personal prayer. This silence is broken only twice for the community to pray together - at 9 am Friday for Morning Prayer (Liturgy of the Hours) and at 7 pm Friday for Evening Prayer and Benediction. There is also Benediction at 9 am Saturday.
Benediction
During Benediction, the people are blessed with the Blessed Sacrament in the monstrance.
What Do We Do During Eucharistic Adoration?
♡ Read and meditate with scripture
♡ Read devotionals or books on prayer, spirituality, saints
♡ Just sit in silence
♡ Pray for others’ needs
♡ Pray for your needs; pray for forgiveness
♡ Pray the rosary (silently)
Don’t get too hung up on what you are doing or saying - just be with Jesus.
"My sweetest Joy is to be in the presence of Jesus in the holy Sacrament. I beg that when obliged to withdraw in body, I may leave my heart before the holy Sacrament. How I would miss Our Lord if He were to be away from me by His presence in the Blessed Sacrament!"
- St. Katharine Drexel
“Oftentimes, I just stay there, simply seated, receiving food. This calm unconscious repose does me good. I am nourished, my strength returns.”
-Bl. Edward Poppe
The exposed Blessed Sacrament should never be left alone so it is necessary to have people committed to filling in the adoration schedule. But we hope and pray that all parishioners will join us at some time during the hours of Adoration every month.
For those who cannot commit to an hour twice a month, we are always in need of substitutes. These volunteers fill in for those with regularly scheduled hours who must be gone due to some circumstance.
If you would be interested in spending one hour once or twice a month with Jesus or becoming a substitute, please call the office at 283-9501.
“The Eucharist is a priceless treasure: by not only celebrating it but also by praying before it outside of Mass we are enabled to make contact with the very wellspring of grace.”
– Pope John Paul II

“Through adoration, the Christian mysteriously contributes to the radical transformation of the world and to the sowing of the Gospel. Anyone who prays to the Savior draws the whole world with him and raises it to God. Those who stand before the Lord are therefore fulfilling an eminent service. They are presenting to Christ all those who do not know him or are far from him; they keep watch in his presence on their behalf.”
– (from Pope John Paul II’s 1996 letter to the Bishop of Liege, written on the occasion of the 750th anniversary of the first celebration of the Feast of Corpus Christi)
